A developmentally appropriate curriculum that engages and challenges children through the years

Early Childhood - Kindergarten

Surrounded by the warmth of a home - like environment, our mixed - age Kindergarten helps children learn by “doing”. As they imitate the teacher in tasks like singing, storytelling, cooking, cleaning, painting, gardening and wax modelling, children develop physical strength, motor skills, language skills and counting unconsciously before formal learning starts.

Middle years - Primary & Middle school

With the fall of teeth, children reach significant physical development and get ready for formal learning in Grade 1. Through primary ( Grades 1 to 5 ) and middle school ( Grades 6 to 8 ), a "living" approach to learning introduces maths, languages, sciences and social sciences interlaced with music, movement, dance, games, handwork and woodwork.

Adolescence - High school

Adolescents develop critical thinking and independent opinions. Classroom instruction transforms into discourse through dialogue & debate. Hands - on experiments and practical projects provide challenge and meaning to students.

Frequently Asked Questions

Waldorf education, established by Rudolf Steiner and Emil Molt in 1919, has its foundations in Anthroposophy. At the heart of Anthroposophy is the belief that humanity has the wisdom to transform itself and the world, through one’s own spiritual development. To that end, Waldorf education holds as its primary intention the ideal of bringing forth — in every child — his or her unique potential in a way that serves the further development of humanity. The curriculum, pedagogy, and teaching methods are designed to nurture this potential.

These two educational approaches began with a similar goal to design a curriculum that was developmentally appropriate to the child and that addressed the children’s need to learn in a tactile as well as an intellectual way. The philosophies are otherwise very different.

Waldorf education has extensive and detailed indications of curriculum that meets the developmental needs of the child at every age. Swechha will integrate these indications into the CBSE curriculum and bring learning to students using an artistic approach.

The delayed introduction of formal learning is to ensure age appropriateness of curriculum. Children relate and learn meaningfully when they are developmentally ready. Learning, then, proceeds at a rapid pace with ease. The curriculum integrates fully with the CBSE prescriptions by Grade 4 and students are at par in the grade level topics.

Each student is assessed by teachers through the day by observing their oral answers, book work and class participation. Daily record of observations are summarised into qualitative reports journalling the progress of each student. Examinations are introduced from Grade 7 to enable readiness for Grade 10.

A central aim of Waldorf Education is to stimulate the healthy development of the child's own imagination. We believe that electronic media hampers the development of the child's imagination, feeding the child fixed images instead of allowing them to develop their own. The physical effects of electronic media on the developing child as well as the content of much of the programming is also a matter of concern.

Waldorf graduates across India have chosen careers across a variety of fields ranging from Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine, Arts and Humanities. With their unique approach to learning and independent outlook, students make meaningful contributions with purpose in whichever field they choose.
