Waldorf education

Child-centered Child-centered
Waldorf philosophy places the child's needs and interests at the center of its approach to learning. In a Waldorf kindergarten, though the activities are led by teachers, the curriculum is designed to protect the imagination of the child from the pressures of the adult world.
Holistic Holistic
In a Waldorf school, meaningful learning experiences are created to promote a balance between the intellectual, physical, emotional, social, spiritual and aesthetic aspects of human development.
Developmentally_appropriate Developmentally appropriate
The Waldorf curriculum is structured into three developmental phases of childhood: from birth to approximately 6 or 7 years, from 7 to 14 years and from 14 to 18 years. At each of these stages, age appropriate content and activities are adopted in correspondence with a child's natural growth and developmental patterns.

second home

Our Second Home @ Pedda Waltair

icon

The idea of a second branch for Swechha arose from the need to have a kindergarten closer to the child’s home, thereby limiting the tiresome commute in the early years. As children turn 3 and start the transition from home to their first school, it is important for the school to be a familiar and safe home-like environment. Our second campus meets both these needs with its proximity to the city centre and being housed in a home-like setup. Situated in Doctor’s Colony near Visakha Eye Hospital in Pedda Waltair, the campus is very accessible to many residential areas. The homely building, adapted to the Waldorf design lends itself beautifully to a Kindergarten rhythm. The lush greenery with bright flowers, fishes swimming in the pond and the squeals of children’s laughter turn the campus into a joyful and healthy space.

Age - Appropriate Learning

Early education (3-6 years)

primary education

Surrounded by the warmth of a home - like environment, our mixed - age Kindergarten helps children learn by “doing”. As they imitate the teacher in tasks like singing, storytelling, cooking, cleaning, painting, gardening and wax modelling, children develop physical strength, motor skills, language skills and counting unconsciously before formal learning starts.

Primary and Middle School years (6 to 14 years)

primary education

With the fall of teeth, children reach significant physical development and get ready for formal learning in Grade 1. Through primary ( Grades 1 to 5 ) and middle school ( Grades 6 to 8 ), a "living" approach to learning introduces maths, languages, sciences and social sciences interlaced with music, movement, dance, games, handwork and woodwork.

High School (14 to 17 years)

primary education

Adolescents develop critical thinking and independent opinions. Classroom instruction transforms into discourse through dialogue & debate. Hands - on experiments and practical projects provide challenge and meaning to students.
